The Turnip Books in Order

The Turnip books bring together personal reflection, romance, and a reimagined Roman adventure. Created by Rebecca Branch with Jessica Rossi, the sequence is less like a conventional continuing novel series and more like a connected set of books about love, reinvention, memory, and the stories people tell about how they came to know each other.

Wanting a little freedom and anonymity, she slips away to Rome.

There she joins a tour led by Molly, an art-history professor from New York. Molly knows Rome's streets, monuments, museums, and stories, and the tour gives Jess a way to see the city outside the narrow role other people have assigned her. As the two women spend time together, the book becomes both a travel-filled Roman romance and a story about recognizing a life that may fit better than the one already planned.

The setting does real work. Rome offers beauty, history, food, danger, and the odd relief of being somewhere far from the rules that usually govern a person's life. Jess and Molly are both capable people, but each arrives carrying loneliness and uncertainty. The tension comes from whether they can be honest about what they want, and whether an unexpected connection can survive the pressure of public expectations and old commitments.
