Nissera is a realm of three kingdoms shaped by elicromancy, an old and dangerous power carried by near-immortal beings called elicromancers. Kingdom of Ash and Briars opens the series with Bristal, an orphaned kitchen maid who discovers she is an elicromancer and a shapeshifter. Even with the big cast and the magic system, the heart of the book is Bristal trying to figure out what kind of power she wants to become.

Fields of Fire offers a short side mission set during the events around the first book, then Realm of Ruins jumps a century forward. The new lead is Valory Braiosa, a descendant of Bristal who attends an academy for elicromancers and ends up burdened with a dangerous power she can't control. That shift gives the series a slightly darker feel. The world is older, the consequences are messier, and the danger reaches into time, death, and the legacies people leave behind.

By Palace of Silver, the focus widens again. Queens, rival claimants, rebels, and restless kingdoms all press against one another while magic itself becomes part of the argument. Glisette and Kadri are trying to lead in a world that keeps punishing hesitation, while Ambrosine brings vanity and cruelty from overseas Perispos. The tension in these later books isn't only who will win. It is also what ruling well even means when fear, resentment, and raw power are already in the room.

West threads familiar fairy tale pieces through all of this, but the series reads more like YA epic fantasy than straight retellings. Expect romance, betrayals, magical training, political maneuvering, and characters who often have to choose between duty and desire. The books share a world and build on each other, but they also shift viewpoint and era, which keeps Nissera from feeling repetitive.

If you like fantasy that mixes crowns, curses, and hard choices, this is the kind of series that rewards reading in order. Starting with Kingdom of Ash and Briars gives you the clearest feel for the magic and the moral questions underneath it. From there, the world gets broader, stranger, and more complicated in a good way.
