Series background & context

The Next Generation series answers a question many readers of the 707 universe asked: what happens when the kids grow up? Set years after the original 707 Freedom books, these novels follow the children, nieces, nephews, and close family friends of earlier couples as they step into their own careers, crises, and loves.

The tone is a little younger in places—the heroes and heroines are cops, federal agents, firefighters, photographers, models, and wanderers finding their way—but the stakes are just as high. Saving Meadow pairs an FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit agent with a scarred survivor of a serial killer, blending profile‑driven suspense with a tender, slow‑building romance. Chasing Honor brings in a single dad police officer whose life collides with a woman fleeing an arranged marriage tied to political power.

In Finding Mercy, two DEA agents bound by shared grief are forced to confront what they still want from life when a case throws them together. Claiming Tuesday and Keeping Quinn both lean into firefighters and found family, with heroines who have been burned—sometimes literally—by past relationships and heroes who are determined to show that commitment does not have to mean control. Adoring Delaney and Taking Liberty offer their own spins on long‑time crushes, childhood friends, and the difficulty of coming home when you have seen too much.

Across the series, the older generation is never far away. Parents and mentors from 707 Freedom, Red Team, and other books show up to offer advice, backup, or the occasional push. That interplay gives the novels a lived‑in feel; readers get to see hardened operators as protective fathers and teasing uncles, not just as soldiers.

The Next Generation works whether or not you have read every earlier book. Long‑time fans will enjoy catching references and cameos, while new readers get contemporary romantic suspense that stands firmly on its own, centered on characters figuring out who they want to be and who they want by their side.
