In Married To The Mob, Carlotta Papparelli, widow of a slain mob boss, is placed under protection after turning state's evidence, with agent Dan Maddox trying to keep her alive long enough to testify.

What links these books is not one long criminal case so much as a common kind of danger. The women at the center are not crime bosses or investigators by trade. They are civilians who suddenly discover that family history, bad luck, or the wrong connection can drag them into something lethal.

These are slim category suspense novels, and they move fast.

Because the books are short, Aiken wastes very little time. The tension arrives early, the romantic leads are in close quarters quickly, and the stakes stay personal. FBI agents, protective detail, witness testimony, and hidden loyalties all matter, but the real question is whether the heroine can figure out who to believe before fear or violence closes in.

If you like romantic suspense with a clear faith thread, quick pacing, and strong danger from page one, The Mob fits nicely. The settings shift, from Philadelphia streets to safer hideouts farther south, but the mood stays the same: watchful, pressured, and just a little breathless.
