Series background & context

The McBrides series is set in Fallbrook, a small Colorado town where everyone remembers who you were in high school and news travels faster than the mountain wind. Each book follows one of the McBride men as he crashes back into the life of the woman he never really got over, bringing military service, guilt, and unfinished business with him.

In The Return of Brody McBride, the family’s black sheep comes home a decorated Army Ranger after eight years away. Brody is determined to win back Rain Evans, the girl he walked out on, and to atone for the damage he left behind. He is stunned to discover she is raising two little girls, one his by blood and the other taken in from a woman who helped destroy their relationship. The story digs into forgiveness, co parenting, and what it means to build a family out of broken pieces.

Falling for Owen centers on steady, soft spoken attorney Owen McBride, who suddenly finds his quiet neighbor Claire Walsh in danger because of a case he is handling. A drunk and violent man looking for Owen breaks into Claire’s house instead, shattering her sense of safety. Wracked with guilt, Owen steps up to repair the damage, installing locks, watching over her, and slowly wearing down the walls she built after a bad marriage. Their romance unfolds as they navigate ongoing threats and a community eager to weigh in.

The final book, Dylan's Redemption, puts eldest brother Dylan in the sheriff’s seat and hands him the shock of his life. He has spent years believing his teenage sweetheart Jessie Thompson was murdered by her father, only to see her walk back into town for a funeral. Jessie fled Fallbrook for good reasons and has stayed away to keep certain secrets buried. Her return forces Dylan and Jessie to confront the night she disappeared, the lies that kept them apart, and whether they can trust each other enough to try again.

Across the trilogy, readers see the McBrides at Sunday dinners, in the sheriff’s office, and working side by side with neighbors who both gossip about them and close ranks when trouble comes. The books are packed with small town details, from barbecues and bar fights to local scandals that never quite die. If you enjoy second chance love stories with a strong family through line and just enough suspense to keep the pages turning, the McBrides are a natural fit.
