In Victorian London, American teenager Tessa Gray searches for her missing brother and is drawn into the secretive world of Shadowhunters. The London Institute offers protection, but its residents are hunting a figure known as the Magister, whose plans appear tied to Tessa’s unexplained powers. Between Will Herondale and Jem Carstairs, Tessa finds friendship, attraction, and dangerous loyalties.
