Series background & context

The Hunters is one of Laylah Roberts' paranormal corners, and it has a very different feel from her contemporary small towns and biker compounds. The official setup says it well: these are beings who were once worshipped, grew arrogant, fell from grace, and now spend their lives hunting the guilty and bringing them to justice.

That gives the series real mythic weight.

The books follow powerful heroes who carry both strength and history. They are not ordinary supernatural love interests. They are hunters, judges, and survivors of a long fall, and that history shapes how they love and how they fight. The heroines who cross their paths do not just gain mates, they get pulled into an old conflict with rules and dangers bigger than themselves.

At the same time, Roberts keeps the stories personal. A Mate to Cherish and A Mate to Sacrifice both work because the fated bond never feels separate from character. Malik, Tarin, Caden, and Sangel may be larger-than-life figures, but the romances still turn on trust, vulnerability, and the fear of losing someone important.

The tone is more fantasy-romance than horror. There is danger, but the series is built around justice, fate, and belonging rather than bleakness.

If you want paranormal romance with alpha energy, fated mates, and a more supernatural sense of purpose, this is the Roberts series to try. It is smaller than some of her contemporary worlds, but it has a clear premise and a nice mix of action, mythology, and emotional pull.
