Series background & context

The Hunt for Alan Martin follows the Jones, Inc. security team as it pursues a terrorist whose plans reach across borders and into the American presidency. Alan Martin has already caused trouble in Susan May Warren's connected novels, and this four-book series brings that continuing threat into focus. Each installment has its own central romance, while the hunt provides a larger story that carries from one book to the next.

The search begins with a train crash.

In North, humanitarian worker Selah Silver wants distance from former Navy SEAL North Gunderson after their breakup. Instead of finding peace in Washington State, she survives a derailment in the Cascade Mountains and becomes entangled with a stranger and a dangerous canister. North must locate her while other people pursue the weapon she is carrying. Their damaged relationship makes trust difficult at exactly the moment when they need to rely on each other, and Selah's connection to operative York Newgate gives Martin another reason to take an interest in her.

East widens the search through a story involving investigative journalist Chloe Silver. Her work in Myanmar has brought her close to information with serious consequences, and the operative trying to help her carries the memory of an earlier mission that went wrong. The move from one couple to another keeps the personal stakes distinct while the conspiracy continues to grow. These are romantic suspense stories in which professional skill doesn't spare anyone from fear, uncertainty, or difficult emotional choices.

In South, a bag mix-up draws Jayden Pierce into evidence of a threat against the president. Suspicion complicates her connection with the man investigating that threat, and a fake engagement gives the pair a reason to travel together in Australia. West brings the danger to Key West, where presidential daughter Britta White has slipped away from her security detail for a friend's wedding. Former Marine West Young becomes involved when Martin's plans turn her brief escape into a struggle to survive.

Across the series, wilderness travel, overseas investigations, and public events create different kinds of exposure for the people involved. The central characters have to make decisions with limited information while their feelings make detachment increasingly difficult. Faith, loyalty, and second chances sit alongside the action. Read North, East, South, and West in order to follow the developing hunt and its connections between couples. Familiar figures from Warren's other books appear along the way, but the organizing thread here is the team's effort to uncover Martin's plans and stop him before more lives are lost.
