The Hipposync Archives is Rhys Dylan's offbeat contemporary fantasy series, written as D.C. Farmer. It takes place in a recognisable modern Britain that happens to sit beside stranger worlds, stranger rules and a bureaucracy with the alarming name of the Department of Fimmigration.

The basic idea is simple enough: supernatural borders need managing. The reality is less tidy. Ordinary people stumble into demons, magical creatures, other realms and conspiracies that do not care whether they have the right paperwork.

Different books bring different people to the front. Matt Danmor discovers that a brush with death has opened his eyes to a much bigger and more dangerous reality. Darren Trott finds that his hobby of photographing plastic models in real settings has consequences nobody could reasonably expect. The series blends supernatural crime, parallel-world adventure and broad, sometimes very silly humour. There are threats to more than one world, but the books also make time for bad luck, oddball side characters, absurd names and the frustration of dealing with rules that make no sense until they suddenly matter a great deal.

That comic approach does not mean the stakes are small. The Hipposync cases involve power-hungry enemies, supernatural violence and people trying to exploit a system that most of the public does not even know exists. The characters are often outmatched, which makes their stubbornness and improvised teamwork part of the fun.

The earlier books establish the world and its unusual rules, while later entries widen its scope. Readers who like urban fantasy with investigations, alternate realities and a distinctly British sense of humour should begin with the earliest Hipposync stories, then continue in publication order to see how the scattered characters and ideas connect.
