The Gentlemen of Queen City Books in Order

The heart of The Gentlemen of Queen City is a quartet of Charlotte musicians who play jazz together as the Queen City Gents. The band gives the series its rhythm, but these books are not music-fantasy stories where the heroes exist only onstage. Each man also has a demanding life away from the group, and that double identity is what gives the series much of its charm.

Darius, Rashad, Marco, and Ken are talented, but they are also professionals with serious day jobs and responsibilities. One is deep in the tech world, another works in government, another is tied to banking and security concerns, and another is better known for architecture than for performing. That mix lets Alexander build romances that move through boardrooms, auctions, contracts, offices, and newspaper assignments as often as through rehearsals and live sets. Music connects the books, yet it never swallows the rest of the characters' lives.

Each romance uses a different spark. In one book, a woman expecting to inherit her family's company has to deal with the man who takes the top job instead. In another, an auction for a legendary piano puts former lovers back in each other's path. Elsewhere, a security contract, a bruised reputation, or a difficult magazine profile becomes the reason two people who might otherwise avoid one another have to stay close. Alexander is especially good at stories where attraction is obvious, but trust takes time.

The series feels polished and adult without losing its warmth. These are characters with careers, pride, and clear ideas about the lives they want. Love does not sweep in and magically fix everything. It complicates their plans first. That makes the emotional payoff stronger, because the books ask what happens when ambitious people have to make room for vulnerability.

There is also a real sense of group chemistry across the series. The men are friends and bandmates, not four isolated heroes sharing a label. When one book ends and another begins, you carry some of that friendship with you. The series works as a set of standalones, but it becomes richer in order because the band itself starts to feel like a familiar social circle.

If you like contemporary romance with smart professionals, strong Black leads, jazz threaded through the background, and a city setting that feels lived in, The Gentlemen of Queen City is a very satisfying place to start.
