Series background & context

The Gargoyle Protectors has one of the more unusual premises in Ariel Marie's catalog. Instead of wolves or vampires, the supernatural guardians here are gargoyles, winged humanoid warriors who have spent thousands of years protecting Earth from threats most humans never even know exist. That immediately gives the series a bigger, older sense of scale.

These are protectors first, lovers second.

In Stone Heart, the focus falls on Rhodack Gahnoth, leader of his clan, and Rina Smith, a woman who looks human but is wrapped in mystery, hidden power, and a spell that keeps her from knowing who she really is. When she is brought into the gargoyle world, the series starts doing what it does best, mixing attraction with revelation. Rina is not just Rhodack's mate. She is tied to the larger danger threatening the realm.

That makes the romance feel more strategic than casual. Rhodack is not free to love in peace, and Rina is not simply entering a supernatural relationship. She is being asked to understand a hidden world, a war she did not know was coming, and powers far greater than she expected to carry. The series gets a lot of tension out of that imbalance, especially because Rhodack is protective and forceful while Rina's true nature turns out to be anything but fragile.

The setting matters here. These gargoyles are not just decorative fantasy creatures. They are a warrior race with a mission, a hierarchy, and a duty to defend the planet. That gives the story an almost epic-fantasy undercurrent, even though the romance remains central.

If you want Ariel Marie in full paranormal adventure mode, The Gargoyle Protectors is a good pick. It offers a different creature focus, bigger lore, and a couple whose bond is tangled up with the fate of more than just themselves.

It is protective mate romance with wings, stone, and a much larger war hovering overhead.
