Angel's Home

by Meg Xuemei X

2016

The war between angels and the people of Mysth is reaching a breaking point. Rose must navigate court politics and hard bargains to protect the Earthborn, and decide what home means when everything, and everyone, has changed.

Series background & context

The Empress of Mysth is a paranormal, sci-fi-tinged romance saga set in a world where angels are not gentle guardians. In this series, they’re a conquering force that turns Earth into a hunting ground, especially for human women, and the survivors are left to figure out what “peace” even means.

Rose is a fey princess with an impossible problem: protect the Earthborn people under her care while a stronger, more ruthless power is taking what it wants. Her solution is political and personal, a forced marriage to the King of Angels in an attempt to buy safety.

That bargain is the heart of the series.

From there, the books build a long arc of court politics, shifting alliances, and the day-to-day reality of living under a regime that treats bodies like trophies. Rose has to navigate a dangerous angel court while holding onto her own identity and trying to keep her promises to the people who need her.

The setting is part fantasy, part invasion story. Fey power and human resilience collide with an angel hierarchy that runs on domination, status, and violence, and the tension comes from watching those systems grind against each other. Even when the story turns romantic, there’s always the sense that someone is being watched, tested, or cornered.

The romance isn’t a soft escape from the plot, it’s part of the machinery of power. Trust has to be earned, and the series is interested in what it costs to build a relationship when the starting point is coercion and survival. As the stakes rise, the story expands into rebellion, war, and the question of whether an empire built on violence can be reshaped from the inside.

If you like epic, multi-book paranormal romance with a strong political backbone, high heat, and a heroine who keeps choosing her people even when it ruins her life, this series fits. It’s best read in order, since the relationships and conflicts build across the arc.

Start at the beginning of The Empress of Mysth series, and follow through to later installments like Angel's Home for the bigger payoff.
