The Wolf Witch
by Chandelle LaVaun
2023
New York witch Inez Alvarez has her dream life running an occult shop—until a pack of wolves drags her to their hidden kingdom and a prophecy names her their priestess. When she unexpectedly shifts, she is thrust into pack politics, fated mates and a war she never trained for.
Series background & context
Shifter Magic zooms in on one slice of the Coven universe: the wolves of Issale and the witch who never meant to join them. The Wolf Witch follows Inez Alvarez, a New York witch who has happily carved out a life running a small occult shop and supplying potions to the School of Magical Arts.
Her plans shatter the night a demon attack forces her to reveal power she did not know she had. Wolves appear out of nowhere, pull her into their territory and tell her a prophecy says she is their long‑awaited priestess. Inez is convinced they have the wrong girl; she is a shop owner, not a warrior, and she just wants to get back to her sisters and the city.
Then she shifts for the first time.
Once her wolf form explodes to the surface, Inez is thrown headfirst into shifter politics: a king who needs her, a soulmate bond that does not land where she expects, and a beta whose steadiness quickly becomes a lifeline. The story explores found family inside a pack, culture clashes between witches and shifters, and what it means to suddenly belong to two worlds at once.
Although Shifter Magic connects directly to events from Fae Magic and the SOMA novellas, this arc is designed as a satisfying standalone. It offers a slightly older, more romantic take on the Coven formula, with more time spent on pack life, slow‑burn attraction and the question of how much of yourself you can change without losing who you are.
