Series background & context
The Chase is a short romantic suspense series, really more of a tight pair of related thrillers than a sprawling continuity. The books are linked by tone more than by one shared cast, and that tone is easy to spot: smart women pushed into danger, investigations that turn personal, and romance growing in the middle of pursuit.
The title fits.
These stories move. One case starts with elderly residents disappearing from a retirement home. Another begins with a detective seeing a body bag dumped into the ocean while she is supposed to be on vacation. Reed uses those hooks to launch straight into suspicion, close calls, and the question of who can be trusted when the evidence keeps shifting.
Because there are only a few books, the series is easy to pick up without a big commitment. At the same time, the books show Reed finding her footing in the blend of faith, suspense, and emotional stakes that would define much of her later work.
If you want a fast, compact introduction to her earlier suspense style, The Chase is a strong little series.
