Series background & context

Thank You for Listening is a contemporary romance with a backstage pass to the audiobook world. It follows Sewanee Chester, a former actress who has made a successful life as an audiobook narrator after an accident changed the path she expected to take. She is capable, funny, and guarded, especially when it comes to the romance genre she once loved.

A new project disrupts that careful balance. Sewanee is asked to record the final novel by June French, a romance writer she has long admired, alongside Nick Sullivan, the mysterious narrator better known by his professional name, Brock McNight. Nick's voice is famous, but the person behind it stays out of sight. Their work together creates an unexpected connection and asks both of them to decide how much of themselves they are willing to reveal.

The central tension is not just whether two people might fall for each other. Sewanee has to reckon with the distance between the dreams she had when she was younger and the life she has built since. Nick has his own reasons for keeping people at arm's length. Their conversations, performances, and growing trust make the recording booth feel like a place where honesty can be both safer and more frightening than it is in ordinary life.

The microphones are always on, even when the characters wish they could hide.

The tone moves easily between sharp workplace humor and more tender emotional material. Whelan uses the business of turning a manuscript into an audiobook as more than a clever setting. It gives the story its rhythm: preparation, performance, retakes, private messages, and the strange intimacy of knowing someone's voice before knowing their face. Readers can expect banter and romance, but also questions about self-image, grief, family ties, and what it takes to begin again.

Though this is a complete standalone story, it has an unusual companion. Casanova LLC is the fictional romance novel that Sewanee and Nick are hired to narrate in Thank You for Listening. Whelan later wrote it as a full book, following Claire and Alessandro in Venice. It is not a conventional sequel to Sewanee and Nick's story, but it adds a playful extra layer for readers who want to experience the book that first brought them together.

Start with Thank You for Listening. Read Casanova LLC afterward if the book-within-the-book premise and its more sensual romance appeal to you.
