Series background & context

Texas Brothers of Company B is a romantic suspense series about Texas Rangers whose jobs keep becoming painfully personal. Each book follows a different Ranger and a different central couple, but the stories are tied together by shared colleagues, ongoing friendships, and a growing web of cases that stretches across Texas.

These are not quiet desk jobs.

The series opens with Ranger Protector, when Jack MacKinnon is assigned to keep intelligence analyst Megan Harper alive after she is framed for a fatal shooting. The trouble follows them quickly, and their search for the people behind the setup becomes a running fight for proof, safety, and time. Jack is trained to take charge, but Megan is far from helpless, which gives the book a lively push and pull.

In Ranger Defender, Slate Thompson backs Vivian Watts as she tries to prove her brother was wrongly convicted. An attack on Vivian makes the situation urgent, and the case begins to suggest that the people meant to enforce the law may be part of the danger. Slate offers protection at his ranch, but the real question is whether they can expose the truth before Vivian is silenced.

Ranger Guardian shifts to a strained marriage. Texas Ranger Heath Murray and FBI agent Kendall Barlow have been separated for months when they are forced onto the same case. Then their young daughter is taken to pressure them. The investigation becomes a race to find her, while Heath and Kendall must decide whether the relationship they put on hold still has a future.

The final book, Criminal Alliance, brings Ranger Wade Hamilton together with FBI operative Therese Ortis. Their target is an algorithm with the potential to cause devastating harm in Dallas. Going undercover against an organized criminal operation means neither of them can afford a wrong move, especially when their personal history is already complicated.

The cases escalate, but the heart of the series stays close to home.

Expect false accusations, kidnappings, corruption, surveillance, undercover work, and Texas settings that move from city streets to rural hideouts. The romances are central rather than separate from the suspense. Each couple has to work through a real disagreement or old hurt while trying to survive a dangerous investigation.

You can read the novels on their own, since each has a complete main case and romance. Reading in order gives you more of the payoff from seeing the Rangers' friendships develop and watching earlier characters return to help when the next case turns ugly.
