She is a bruised, trying-to-figure-it-out person who has already learned what failure feels like. Berg brings steadiness, experience, and spiritual grounding. Together they create a series dynamic built less on flash than on endurance, discernment, and the willingness to walk toward things other people would rather avoid.

The Colorado setting also helps. Old churches, isolated buildings, and mountain-town unease fit Kaufman's interest in place-based suspense. If her Anna Denning books use Colorado for atmosphere and hidden history, the Teagan Doyle series uses it for a heavier kind of haunting, where ordinary structures can feel charged with memory, evil, and unresolved violence.

These mysteries ask whether the worst thing in the room is human, supernatural, or both.

Readers should expect spiritual warfare, murder investigation, and a heroine who is more battered than glamorous. The series is darker than Juniper Grove or Kelsie Butler, but it is still driven by character and moral choice, not just shocks. If you want Karin Kaufman at her most openly supernatural, Teagan Doyle is a strong place to look.
