Series background & context
The Taming the Beast series is Tina Donahue at her most playful with paranormal romance. The books feature witches, demons, vampires, weres, zombies, gods, and other supernatural beings, but the mood often mixes humor with genuine emotional stakes.
It begins with Freeing the Beast. Becca Salt is a witch who runs a makeover service for supernatural clients trying to pass as ordinary humans. Eric Diletto is a descendant of Cupid, tired of being the nice, courteous man women leave for bad boys. He hires Becca to help him find a more dangerous side.
That setup captures the series well. The characters may have supernatural abilities, but their problems are recognizably human: loneliness, insecurity, bad relationship patterns, and the fear that people will only want one version of them.
Each book brings a different couple into the larger paranormal community. The stories are high heat, but they also enjoy the oddness of their world. A magical service business, a complicated family line, or a monster trying to fit in can all become part of the romantic problem.
Start with Freeing the Beast, then continue through Surrendering to the Beast, Mastering the Beast, Muzzling the Beast, Disciplining the Beast, and Seducing the Beast.
