Taken is a collaboration space, and it has a slightly different feel from Cali MacKay's solo work because it leans hard into M/M second-chance suspense. Co-written with Julie Farrell, the series pairs old heartbreak with present-day danger, which means the emotions are already running high before the mystery side fully clicks into place.

In Taken Back, Jax and Nathan are dragged together again by betrayal, business threats, and murder. Their history is the point. They loved each other young, got torn apart badly, and now have to decide whether survival is reason enough to trust each other again. Taken Again uses a similar emotional engine, this time with Carter and rock star Seth, whose old wounds are tangled up with secrets and threats that could turn lethal.

What works about the series is how tightly it keeps romance and suspense linked. These are not mysteries happening off to the side while a love story unfolds in peace. The danger is what forces the men back into each other's orbit, and every step toward trust also risks opening up something painful from years earlier.

If you like M/M romance with a protective streak, second chances, and outside pressure that keeps the story moving, Taken is worth a look. The books are connected by tone more than by one long plot, so either one can work, but starting with Taken Back gives you the clearest sense of the collaboration's style.
