Series background & context

Sweet Water High is a shared young adult romance world in which different authors follow students through the same school year. Kelsie Stelting's contribution is Road Trip with the Enemy, a standalone enemies-to-lovers story that can be read by itself.

The book centers on a teen carrying grief after her brother's death. She has made two firm promises: she will run a charity marathon in his place, and she will stay far away from Jeremiah Dermot. Unfortunately, those plans collide when her car breaks down and Jeremiah is the one who stops to help.

The only way forward is together.

A road trip forces the pair into close quarters while the heroine is trying to honor her brother and support a young hospice patient connected to his marathon goal. Jeremiah is not merely an inconvenient ride. He is part of a history she has not forgiven, so every mile brings old anger and assumptions closer to the surface.

The story uses the familiar high school enemies-to-lovers setup, but grief gives it extra weight. The romance develops alongside the heroine's effort to keep a promise and figure out how to carry loss without letting it decide every part of her future.

Because Sweet Water High is a multi-author project, readers may encounter references to other students and events from the wider school community. You do not need those books to understand this one. Road Trip with the Enemy has its own complete central romance and emotional arc.

Start with Road Trip with the Enemy. It is the only Kelsie Stelting title in this shared series and is designed as an accessible standalone.
