Sweet is a standalone young adult thriller set aboard a luxury cruise ship that promises a glamorous fresh start. The voyage is built around the launch of Solu, a fashionable new diet sweetener meant to help hundreds of passengers lose weight in a single week. The setting looks glossy at first: celebrity guests, red carpets, reality-TV personalities, and a ship full of people hoping to reinvent themselves.

Laurel did not exactly want to be there. She joins the trip at the invitation of her friend Vivika, then quickly feels out of place among the ship's polished, status-conscious crowd. She is also too sick to try Solu, which leaves her watching from the sidelines as the people around her begin behaving in ways that do not make sense.
