Series background & context
Sunshine Valley is one of Melinda Curtis's warmest small-town setups. The series takes place in Sunshine, Colorado, where three older women have appointed themselves the Sunshine Valley Matchmakers Club. Their mission is simple: help Cupid along, whether the people involved asked for help or not.
They are not subtle.
That matchmaking thread gives the series its comic lift, but the romances themselves have real emotional weight. Curtis builds these books around characters who are grieving, starting over, protecting secrets, or trying to rebuild their sense of self after heartbreak. A widow uncovering her husband's hidden life, a teacher hiding a second job, a judge trying to outgrow an old reputation. The problems are personal and messy, which makes the town's warmth matter more.
Sunshine feels lived in. There are weddings, holidays, gossip, holiday parades, town politics, exes who are impossible to avoid, and a constant sense that everyone knows just enough about your business to make life interesting. That keeps the books cozy without making them sleepy.
If you want second-chance romance, meddling side characters, and a small town that manages to be both funny and tender, Sunshine Valley is a strong place to start. Read The Christmas Wish if you want the prequel first, or jump straight into Can't Hurry Love for the full series mood.
