Series background & context
Sulfur Springs spins out of Men of Crooked Bend, but it has its own personality. The setting stays in Wyoming, and the books keep some of the same close-knit, everybody-knows-everybody feeling, but the focus shifts away from the ranch as the center of every story and into the wider lives of the people around it.
That means the cast opens up. Deputies, sheriffs, architects, firefighters, and other familiar faces get their turn, often with Crooked Bend connections still humming in the background. Protecting My Commitment is the clearest example of the handoff, pulling readers into Sulfur Springs through a new couple while reminding them that the earlier series still matters.
The emotional style is very similar to the Crooked Bend books. These are contemporary M/M romances built on safety, trust, protective instincts, and small-town support. Past abuse, bad relationships, and fresh starts show up a lot, which makes the happiest moments feel earned rather than automatic.
What changes is the texture. Sulfur Springs feels a little more town-centered and a little less ranch-centered. The community is still tight, but the stories spend more time on jobs, public life, and the ways adult routines can either isolate people or bring them together.
If you liked the Men of Crooked Bend world and wanted more time with related characters without starting over somewhere completely new, Sulfur Springs is the natural next step. It keeps the family feeling, the Wyoming setting, and the protective romance vibe, just with a slightly broader lens.
