The Suits series steps away from contemporary romance and into portal fantasy. It opens with Wild Card, and from the start the setup is clear and fun: a prince breaks a promise, experiments with a mirror legend, and ends up somewhere he absolutely did not mean to go.

That somewhere is a strange realm shaped by the language and imagery of a deck of cards. In Wild Card, Prince Teodric is pulled out of his own kingdom and dropped into a place where identities shift, rules are unstable, and power is divided between queens tied to the four suits. He also ends up tangled with Jack of Spades, which gives the story its first real push of partnership, suspicion, and emotional tension.

What makes the series feel different is the blend of fairy-tale logic and political danger. The world is imaginative, but it is not random. The card-suit structure gives Rose room to play with courts, rivalries, appearance, performance, and the idea that people can be assigned roles they do not actually fit. That makes the fantasy framework useful for identity questions as well as adventure.

The tone has a little Alice in Wonderland energy, but it is more plot-driven and more openly interested in loyalty, betrayal, and who can be trusted once a character is cut loose from everything familiar. There is romance in the mix, but the book is just as focused on survival, alliances, and the unsettling experience of waking up in a world that seems to know more about you than you do.

If you like portal fantasy with court intrigue, magical rules, and a setting that feels whimsical at first glance but sharper underneath, Suits is worth a look. Wild Card reads like the opening move in a larger game, one where dimension-hopping, royal duty, and personal desire are all headed for the same collision point.
