The Stream Raiders books take place after a revolution, which is part of what makes them interesting. Grace Loray has thrown off Argrid's rule, but peace is shaky, the island's magical plants are still a source of power and profit, and old enemies have not stopped acting like conquerors. These stories are less about winning a war than living through what comes next.

Three leads carry most of the weight. Adeluna, usually called Lu, is a former rebel soldier trying to keep her island from sliding back into bloodshed. Devereux, or Vex, is a stream raider who lives off Grace Loray's magic and black markets. Benat is the crown prince of Argrid, trapped inside a deeply religious kingdom that fears the very magic he cannot stop studying.

The setting does a lot of work here. Botanical magic is everywhere, from medicine to weapons to politics, and the island atmosphere gives the books a different feel from more standard court fantasy. There are pirates, yes, but also councils, prisons, spies, peace talks, and a steady sense that religion and state power can twist private lives.

Peace is the messy part.

In These Rebel Waves, a vanished delegate threatens to restart the war. In These Divided Shores, captivity, rebellion, and illness push the characters even harder, and the fight becomes about what kind of freedom Grace Loray can actually build. The series keeps returning to hard questions about justice, forgiveness, and whether people shaped by violence can choose something different.

The tone is adventurous, but it is not light. These are political YA fantasies with pirate energy, queer romance, shifting alliances, and a strong interest in what people owe their country, their cause, and themselves. If you like worldbuilding with salt air and sharp edges, this is probably the Sara Raasch series to pick.
