Never Been Witched

Alice Seastairs keeps ghosts and dangerous magic in line on Starfall Point, or at least she tries to. Helping Collin Bancroft restore a haunted historic hotel would be easier without family secrets and a much larger supernatural threat.

Series background & context

Starfall Point is Molly Harper's witchy island series, set in Michigan and built around a house that is basically begging to be haunted. The broad setup is delightfully specific: a small coven of witches is tied to Shaddow House, a home packed with restless ghosts, cursed objects, and family secrets that refuse to stay in the past.

The books mix romance with an ongoing supernatural puzzle. Each installment focuses on a different heroine, but the larger story keeps circling the same questions: how do you protect a community built on magic, what do you do with dangerous artifacts, and how much of your life is being steered by an old family legacy? There are missing magical locks, old grudges, and the constant problem of the dead refusing to behave.

What makes the series work is the setting. Starfall Point is an island, so everything feels a little enclosed in the best way. People keep running into each other. News travels fast. The living and the dead share more space than anyone would really like. Harper gets a lot of mileage out of that combination of cozy isolation and supernatural inconvenience.

The romances have Harper's usual strengths: smart women, good banter, decent men, and just enough friction to keep things moving. But the books also lean into friendship and coven bonds. These women do not operate alone. When one of them gets in trouble, the others come running, usually with a plan that is only partly thought through.

By the time you get to Never Been Witched, the series has settled into its own rhythm of ghosts, renovation problems, magic cleanup, and slow-burning emotional baggage. Alice's story, with its haunted hotel and family pressure, fits neatly into the broader arc without feeling like just another haunted-house romance.

If you want paranormal romance with island weather, witchy domestic chaos, and a strong ongoing mystery, Starfall Point is a fun place to land. It also pairs nicely with Moonshadow Cove, which grows out of the same world from the other side of the island.
