Series background & context

The Star Trek: The Original Series Starfleet Academy books imagine young versions of familiar Star Trek characters before they became officers aboard the Enterprise. Brad Strickland's entries use the Academy setting for science-fiction adventures shaped by training, teamwork, and the pressure to live up to Starfleet ideals.

Titles such as Starfall, Nova Command, The Star Ghost, and Stowaways place cadets in situations where classroom lessons quickly become real tests. Space is full of unexplained phenomena, risky missions, and people who may not be what they seem. The students have to learn when to follow procedure and when to trust one another.

The fun comes from seeing future heroes before they are fully formed. They are talented, but they are still learning. Rivalries, mistakes, friendships, and awkward moments sit alongside strange planets and spaceborne danger.

Everyone has to start somewhere.

The series keeps the optimistic spirit of Star Trek while giving younger readers a fast, accessible entry point. Problems are often solved through courage, reason, and cooperation rather than brute force.

Read the books in listed order for the smoothest Academy experience, beginning with Starfall. Each adventure has its own central conflict, but the ongoing setting and the developing cadet relationships reward reading from the beginning.
