David Mack's Deep Space Nine work picks up after the television finale and leans into the rawer, less settled future the show left behind. The war is over, but nobody gets a clean reset. Trauma lingers, politics stay volatile, and the station's people are still carrying losses they cannot just file away.
That gives these stories a harder edge.
His main DS9 novel, Warpath, pushes familiar characters into a chase-and-reckoning structure that especially hits Kira, Vaughn, Bashir, and the Jem'Hadar officer Taran'atar. It is not cozy reunion material. It is about what happens when old damage erupts again and forces everyone to choose what sort of peace they actually have.
If you like post-finale Star Trek that treats consequences seriously, this is a strong little corner of the DS9 relaunch.
