Jekyll

by Zoe Blake

2022

A modern retelling of Jekyll and Hyde, this dark romance follows a scientist and his monstrous alter ego as they fixate on the same woman. No lock or lie can keep her safe once both sides of him decide she is the only thing they truly want.

Series background & context

Stalked by a Monster is where Zoe Blake leans into full‑on gothic monster romance. Instead of mafia bosses and billionaires, the heroes here are creatures – or men half‑transformed by darkness – who fixate on one woman with frightening intensity.

Each book riffs on a different piece of classic horror. In Jekyll, the best known in the series, Dr. Jekyll and his alter ego Hyde share an obsession with the same woman. The story is told from both sides of that fractured mind. Jekyll understands that taking the dangerous formula only makes Hyde stronger and more fixated, yet he keeps doing it, because on some level they both want her.

The heroine is caught between a seemingly respectable man and the monster who stalks her through the night. Locked doors, city streets, and social rules offer little real protection. The more she is watched, the more she starts to question whether the monster is entirely external or if some part of her is just as drawn to the darkness.

Other installments, featuring figures like a brooding count or a shapeshifter, follow a similar pattern. A woman is marked by something otherworldly and cannot simply walk away. The monster in question may claim he is protecting her from something worse, but his methods are invasive and cruel, blurring any line between savior and captor.

Atmosphere is everything in this series. Fog‑shrouded streets, old laboratories, and grand but decaying estates create a sense of unease that never really lifts. The plots mix sensuality with outright horror. There are explicit scenes, but they are wrapped in dread rather than hearts and flowers.

Readers who enjoy Blake’s Broken Doll or horror anthologies will find a similar willingness to push boundaries here, with the added twist of supernatural or science‑fiction elements. Those who prefer their romance safely grounded in the real world may find these books a step too far.

If you are in the mood for something that sits squarely between dark romance and horror – monsters who stalk instead of woo, and heroines who must decide whether to run or surrender – Stalked by a Monster offers a compact, very intense experience.
