Series background & context
Spy Girl takes one of Jillian Dodd's favorite strengths, swoony romance under pressure, and drops it into an international spy story. The heroine is Huntley Von Allister, an eighteen-year-old covert agent with a polished cover identity and a job that would be hard enough even without feelings getting involved.
Unfortunately, feelings get very involved.
Her first major mission is a big one. Huntley has to pose as the long-lost daughter of a billionaire, move through high society, and protect Prince Lorenzo of Montrovia from assassination. That gives the series its central hook right away, secret identity, royalty, glamour, danger, and a heroine who is supposed to stay detached while falling for the very person she is assigned to save.
As the books continue, the world gets larger and darker. The missions expand beyond one prince and one palace into assassins, secret groups, betrayals, London intrigue, and a conspiracy that keeps circling back to Huntley's own past. The stakes jump from personal to political very quickly, but the emotional thread stays clear. Huntley is always being asked to choose between training and trust, duty and love, self-protection and connection.
The tone is faster and more cinematic than Dodd's school-set romances, but it still carries the same binge-friendly quality. The chapters move, the cliffhangers matter, and the romance is never just decoration. Falling for Lorenzo changes the mission because it changes Huntley.
If you want a Jillian Dodd series with action, royal drama, and a heroine who can handle both a ball gown and a dangerous assignment, Spy Girl is the place to start.
