Spirit Trilogy Books in Order

The Spirit Trilogy is where Paty Jager leans furthest into fantasy, but it is still tied closely to western and Native history. These books follow spirit beings connected to the Nimiipuu, or Nez Perce, world, and pair them with mortal characters whose lives are already shaped by duty, violence, and change.

That mix gives the trilogy its voice.

In Spirit of the Mountain, Spirit of the Lake, and Spirit of the Sky, the romances are not light or purely escapist. Love gets tangled up with peace negotiations, sexual violence, tribal justice, and the pressure of U.S. expansion. The spirits are powerful, but they are not detached from human suffering. They are pulled into it, and often changed by it.

Each book stands on its own with a different central couple, yet the trilogy works best as a whole because the spiritual and family links keep building from one story to the next. Wren, Dove, and Sa-qan's mortal kin all face questions of loyalty, sacrifice, and survival. The fantasy elements, shape-shifting, visions, and spirit duty, sit beside real historical tensions rather than replacing them.

If you like romance with a mythic feel, but still want a solid emotional story and high personal stakes, this trilogy is worth reading in order. Spirit of the Mountain is the best entry point because it lays out both the supernatural rules and the emotional tone that carry through the later books.
