Series background & context

Special Ops Scots takes the Scottish charm of Kilted Hearts and gives it a more military, more protective spin. These books revolve around former Royal Marines and the women who knock them sideways after service, injury, or major life changes have already forced them to rethink who they are. The result is a connected series that blends small-town comfort with a little more edge.

There is a prequel, One Fine Night, which starts with a chance encounter and a pretend-boyfriend moment that turns into something memorable very fast. Then the main books build out the world. Before Highland Sunset uses fake relationship and best friend's little sister tension. Beyond Highland Sunrise leans into grumpy-sunshine and workplace romance. Beneath Highland Stars pushes toward enemies to lovers, forced proximity, and a woman in trouble, with a retired military dog adding extra appeal.

These men know how to protect.

What they do not always know is how to be still, how to trust peace, or how to let someone see the parts of them that service and loss reshaped. Nolan uses that gap really well. The heroines are not passive recipients of rescue. They are capable women with their own secrets, pressures, and reasons for resisting easy answers.

If you like ex-military romance but want it set in a cozy Scottish community instead of an all-action thriller world, this series hits a very specific sweet spot. It has banter, loyalty, local texture, and just enough external trouble to remind you that these heroes may be retired from one kind of mission, but they are not done fighting for the people they love.
