Series background & context
Southern Ghost Wranglers stars Blissful Breneaux, who begins the series as a covert government ghost hunter with a career problem and a grief problem. After being fired, she gets one last chance to redeem herself, find the notorious spirit Lucky Strike in Haunted Hollow, Alabama.
Haunted Hollow is exactly what it sounds like.
It is a touristy little place loaded with ghost stories, local lore, and enough real paranormal activity to make Blissful's job much harder than it should be. Instead of a clean mission, she finds herself tangled up with a murder, a pair of older women who run a ghost-wrangling business, and Roan Storm, who keeps seeming helpful and suspicious in equal measure.
The books lean more openly into ghosts than most of Boyles's witch series, which gives them a slightly moodier edge. At the same time, they still keep that friendly, readable rhythm, quick banter, quirky townspeople, a little romance, and a mystery that moves.
Blissful is the reason the series works.
She is competent but not invincible, funny without trying too hard, and emotionally tied to the world through her father, her former agency, and the spirits she deals with. If you like haunted towns, cold cases, ghost lore, and a heroine who keeps getting dragged into deeper trouble than she planned on, Southern Ghost Wranglers is a strong fit.
