Series background & context

This page tracks Colleen Coble's side of the Smitten collaboration, which is useful because Smitten is not a typical solo-author series. Coble wrote these books with Denise Hunter, Kristin Billerbeck, and Diann Hunt, and the whole point is the town they built together: Smitten, Vermont, a community trying to save itself by turning romance into tourism.

That premise gives Coble room to work in a different mode. Readers who know her best from suspense will still recognize the quick pacing and the occasional extra note of tension, but Smitten, Secretly Smitten, and Smitten Book Club are much lighter overall. They are ensemble romances, not danger-driven mysteries.

The town does most of the heavy lifting.

A lumber mill is closing, the future looks shaky, and a small group of women decides to lean into the town's unforgettable name. The makeover plan creates the setting for linked love stories, town schemes, recurring side characters, and plenty of meddling. Coble's own contributions, including the Natalie-centered Birthday Wishes, Love Between the Lines, and Love by the Book pieces, fit into that larger web.

Because four writers are involved, the books have more variety than a standard Coble run. One storyline may feel sweeter, another more comic, another a little more emotionally bruised. That is part of the fun. You are not reading for one tightly controlled tone. You are reading for community.

If you like Colleen Coble but want to see her in a warmer, more openly romantic small-town setting, this is a good branch to try. Read in order, because the shared cast and evolving town plans are really what make Smitten work.
