Sirens of the Zombie Apocalypse Books in Order

Sirens of the Zombie Apocalypse is where EE Isherwood first planted his flag, and you can see a lot of his long-term interests already in place. It is a zombie series, yes, but it is built less around grim swagger than around family, movement, and impossible responsibility. The opening premise is memorable right away. A century earlier, the Spanish Flu left a strange legacy of immunity, and now the last people who still carry that protection are the very old.

That is where Marty Peters comes in.

Marty is 104, small, stubborn, and much harder to dismiss than people expect. Her great-grandson Liam is fifteen, more interested in normal teen life than the end of the world, and not at all ready to become someone's protector. When the outbreak begins, the series throws them together and lets the contrast do a lot of the work. A teenager and his elderly great-grandmother are not the usual pair you get in zombie fiction, and that difference gives the books their own flavor from page one.

The first part of the series is a running survival story. Liam has to get Marty out of danger, through panicked crowds, government confusion, and the first waves of infected. But the books do not stay small. As the story grows, Victoria becomes important, family secrets come into focus, and rumors of a cure turn the whole fight into something bigger than simply staying alive one more night. Liam is still learning how to survive, yet more and more people begin looking at him as if he matters to the fate of the crisis itself.

The zombies change, too.

That matters because the series is not content to repeat one type of threat. Safe havens turn out not to be entirely safe. Military actors and hidden facilities complicate the search for answers. Some places look like rescue and turn out to be traps. By the middle books, the story is carrying more political intrigue, more pressure around the cure, and more questions about why Liam's family seems tied to the outbreak in ways nobody understands at first.

Even so, the tone stays more humane than brutal. Isherwood has said he likes to keep his apocalypse stories lighter than much of the genre, and this series shows what that means in practice. There is danger everywhere, but the books are not built on cruelty. Marty remains a real character, not a gimmick. Liam grows without turning into a cartoon action hero. The humor, faith, loyalty, and moments of decency are part of the appeal.

So if you want a zombie series with hordes, escapes, and a hunt for a cure, this one delivers. If you also want an unusual family bond at the center and a version of the apocalypse where heart matters as much as gore, Sirens of the Zombie Apocalypse is probably the best entry point into Isherwood's work.
