Series background & context
The Sinners series is Michelle Heard’s collection of standalone mafia romances set across Europe, each one focused on a different criminal organization and the woman who upends a powerful man’s life. The books share a tone and overlapping families, but every couple gets a complete story and a guaranteed ending.
The first novel follows Tess, a film student determined to keep her life free of mafia ties. Her mother’s surprise marriage to a retired Greek Godfather destroys that plan overnight. Suddenly Tess has Nikolas Stathoulis, the current head of the Greek mafia, as a stepbrother and self appointed jailer. Their cat and mouse dynamic swings between infuriating and intoxicating as he tries to control every part of her world and she fights for her independence.
In Owned By A Sinner, a desperate heroine takes a job with Byrne Enterprises so she can support her ailing father, only to discover that the company is a front for the Irish mafia. Liam Byrne, the ruthless boss at the top, has strict rules and a reputation for hating physical touch. When he steps between her and a predatory underling, their connection spirals into a forbidden, obsessive romance.
Stolen By A Sinner puts a Cinderella spin on the formula. Lara works as a servant for a cruel employer who uses any excuse to hurt her. A chance collision with Gabriel, a Turkish mafia leader hunting the man who murdered his parents, sets events in motion. When Gabriel later breaks into the house and finds Lara alone, he takes her with him, not sure whether she is bait, collateral, or something far more personal.
The remaining books, including Chosen By A Sinner and Captured By A Sinner, round out the cast with Italian and Russian power players who have close ties to the Cotroni and Vetrov families from The Saints and Corrupted Royals. Each story mixes arranged marriages, mistaken identities, or forced proximity with the steady growth of trust between two people who might have met as enemies.
What unites the series is the way it humanizes men who are used to ruling through fear. These kings of different underworlds are cold, methodical, and lethal when the story begins. Over the course of each book, cracks appear in their armor as they fall for women who challenge them, soften them, and refuse to be treated as possessions.
Readers who enjoy unapologetically alpha heroes, vivid European settings, and heroines who find their strength in the harshest circumstances will find plenty to sink into here. The Sinners novels can be read in any order, but reading them all lets you appreciate the web of alliances and grudges connecting Greek, Irish, Turkish, Italian, and Russian crime families.
