Series background & context
Single in South Beach is one of Joanne Rock's signature early contemporary series, and it still has a very clear hook. A Miami couples' resort is left in chaos after its male owners disappear with the profits, so the women connected to the place decide to reinvent it as a singles destination instead.
That setup gives the whole series energy.
Across Sex & the Single Girl, Girl's Guide to Hunting & Kissing, One Naughty Night, Girl Gone Wild, Date with a Diva, and Her Final Fling, the appeal is not just the South Beach heat. It is the sense that these women are trying to build something of their own after betrayal. They do not go looking for sweeping forever love at first. They are trying to protect a business, reclaim some pride, and have a little fun. Of course, love shows up anyway.
The tone is sexy, playful, and slightly glossy, but there is more emotional substance than the setting first suggests. Family connections, club scandals, old crushes, and trust issues all keep the stories grounded. If you like early 2000s category romance with a strong group premise and lots of beachy sparkle, Single in South Beach is a very good place to start.
