Series background & context
Single Girl Rules is Ivy Smoak in full comic-chaos mode. The heroine, Chastity, is technically supposed to be protected, controlled, and kept out of trouble by the world around her. Naturally, that means she spends most of the series trying to do the exact opposite.
Her problem starts at home.
Chastity is the daughter of an overprotective mafia boss, which means freedom has always come with conditions. When she heads off to college, she tries to use distance as her escape plan. It does not work. Her father sends bodyguards with her, and that gives the series its core tension. Chastity wants independence, parties, flirting, and a life that feels like her own. The men assigned to watch her are there to stop all of that, which of course only makes them more interesting.
The series has a loose, episodic energy at first, especially in the novella-length stories that were later gathered into Ready to Mingle. Those early books are built around girls' nights, campus schemes, social disasters, and Chastity making the kind of decisions that sound terrible on paper and extremely entertaining on the page. Later entries widen the story and connect it more openly to The Society, including rescue plots and a friendship with Ash that adds even more chaos to the mix.
This series is not subtle.
It is broad, fast, funny, and very spicy. Smoak leans into outrageous setups on purpose, whether that means bodyguard tension, absurd party themes, wild holiday turns, or Chastity talking herself into another plan that absolutely should not work. The books know they are ridiculous at times, and that self-awareness is part of the charm.
What keeps it from floating away entirely is Chastity herself. She is not trying to solve some grand mystery or save the world. She is trying to grow up on her own terms inside a life where powerful people keep deciding what is best for her. That gives the series a surprisingly steady emotional through-line under all the sex jokes and bad ideas.
If you want the funniest, loosest, least restrained corner of Ivy Smoak's connected world, this is probably it. Start with Ready to Mingle for the full setup, then keep going if you like your rom-coms loud, chaotic, and not at all interested in behaving.
