A strange do-over premise turns ordinary life into something much more unsettling. This opening Siggost Chronicles novel blends mystery, altered choices, and the dangerous pull of a second chance.

Rebirth

by Sydney Addae

2018

Starting over is not simple when the past still shapes your body, memory, and future. This follow-up keeps the Siggost tension high as survival and love become tangled.

Series background & context

The Siggost Chronicles sit a little apart from Sydney Addae's better known shifter books. They lean more toward speculative suspense and new-adult drama, with a reality-bending setup built around second chances, missing memories, and a system that promises change without ever feeling safe.

The key thing to know is that these books are tied to the Do Over idea that appears elsewhere in Addae's catalog. The concept sounds tempting on the surface. A game, program, or process offers people a chance to rewrite something about their lives. But once characters step into that world, it becomes clear that the cost is much higher than the pitch.

Second chances come with strings.

That makes the series feel different from her mate-driven paranormal romance. The emotional pull is still there, but the engine is uncertainty. Characters are not just asking who they can trust. They are asking what is real, what they remember correctly, and whether the version of life in front of them was ever really theirs to choose. That gives the books a slightly more unsettled energy than the pack series.

The first story thread centers on a young woman drawn into this world after a disappearance and a troubling secret shake up her life. Instead of finding a simple explanation, she ends up inside something much stranger, where the promise of a do-over hides deeper manipulation. The follow-up story shifts toward someone trying to build a future after that experience, only to discover that the aftermath is still shaping her body, memory, and chances at a stable life.

That aftermath is where the series gets its bite.

Addae uses the Siggost setup to explore vulnerability in a different way than she does with wolves or dragons. Here the danger is not mainly claws, war, or clan politics. It is confusion, altered paths, hidden consequences, and systems that know how to make desperate people agree to things they do not fully understand. The romance, when it arrives, has to fight through that uncertainty.

Readers should expect a more experimental branch of her work, one that mixes mystery, emotional recovery, and the uneasy feeling that reality itself has been tilted. The books still care about connection and survival, but they ask softer, more unnerving questions. What would you risk for a reset? What if the life you think you chose was shaped somewhere behind the scenes? What if moving forward means admitting you can never truly rewind?

If you are curious about the non-shifter side of Addae's imagination, Siggost Chronicles is an interesting place to look. It is smaller than the La Patron universe, but it has its own mood: tense, personal, and quietly strange in a way that lingers after the page.
