Shame and Terric Books in Order

The Shame and Terric books take two of Devon Monk's most memorable side characters and push them into the center of the story. If you came to this world through the Allie Beckstrom novels, you already know the basic shape of the partnership: Shamus Flynn carries Death magic, Terric Conley carries Life magic, and being tied together as Soul Complements has never made them calm or easy around each other.

That tension is the point.

Portland remains an important part of the atmosphere. It is still a city shaped by magic and by the aftermath of magical collapse. But the focus narrows more tightly onto these two men and the people they would burn the world down to protect. That gives the stories a sharper edge. The action is still there, and so is Monk's humor, but the emotional weight falls on loyalty, guilt, survival, and the question of whether two broken people can keep pulling each other back from the brink.

They make a mess of it. Repeatedly.
