Series background & context

Shadowed Sins is Alexis Winter stepping into much darker territory. If a lot of her backlist is built on small towns, billionaires, and high-steam contemporary romance, this series pushes toward corruption, obsession, criminal power, and morally gray characters who are not trying very hard to be good.

It starts with The CEO.

That first book makes the tone clear almost immediately. The heroine writes obituaries and accidentally captures evidence that puts her on the radar of Damien Knox, a powerful CEO whose public image hides a criminal empire. From there the story moves into a world of surveillance, manipulation, seduction, and danger, with the heroine drawn deeper into a relationship that feels threatening and irresistible at the same time. Winter even frames the series with a dark Eden-style mythic edge, which gives it a more stylized feel than her lighter books.

What matters most here is mood. This is not a playful office romance with some banter and a fake engagement. It is a darker fantasy about control, corruption, and what happens when a heroine starts wanting the very thing she knows could ruin her. The violence is sharper, the power imbalance is heavier, and the atmosphere is meant to feel a little poisonous.

If you are coming to Alexis Winter for the first time, this is not the place to start if you want her warmest or funniest work. But if you already know you like dark billionaire romance, possessive antiheroes, and stories where love and danger are tangled together from the first chapter, Shadowed Sins gives you that version of her voice.

At the moment, this series reads like the opening move into a bigger, nastier world. The CEO lays the groundwork and signals exactly what kind of ride you are in for.
