Series background & context

Shadow Ops Team moves from Navy SEAL units to a private covert-operations group. The series starts with Jett, whose hero, Jett Hutchinson, is a former SEAL and the head of Shadow Security. His work provides a cover for black-ops assignments, which means danger can follow the team well beyond any one mission.

In Jett, the title character meets Anna Dubois, an executive assistant ready for a change from an unpleasant job in Manhattan. Their connection brings Anna into a world she did not know existed, and Jett has to decide how much of that world he can keep from her. The book introduces the group and its mix of loyalty, secrecy, and high-risk work.

The later novels, Ford, Luke, Sam, Mistletoe Mischief, Nick, and Gray, continue with other operatives. Each has a new central couple and a complete romance, but the books work best in sequence because the team keeps returning. Their friendships, professional trust, and habit of getting involved in each other's lives give the series its backbone.

These are operatives, not office coworkers.

The setting can shift from city life to travel and mission territory, depending on the story. What remains steady is the contrast between a dangerous job and the ordinary things the characters want: safety, honesty, a home, and a partner who understands the costs of the work.

The tone is romantic suspense with a little more covert-action flavor than the SEAL series. There are threats to investigate, people to protect, and secrets that have a way of becoming personal. The heroes can handle difficult assignments, but relationships make them confront risks they cannot manage with training alone.

Start with Jett. It establishes the Shadow Security world and the people around it, then leads naturally into Ford and Luke.
