Seasons (Jess Michaels) Books in Order

The Seasons books are a quartet of connected Regency romances built around moments of change. The titles signal that nicely. Winter, spring, summer, and autumn are not just decorative markers here. Each book catches its heroine at a turning point, when an old life can no longer hold and something new, frightening, or hopeful starts to press in.

That gives the series a slightly softer rhythm than some of Michaels's more overtly high-concept runs.

In An Affair in Winter, questions of family history, protection, and class are wrapped in a colder, more uncertain mood. A Spring Deception suggests renewal, but with lies and hidden motives right there in the title. One Summer of Surrender leans into heat, risk, and the intensity of temporary freedom. Adored in Autumn brings the feeling of looking back at choices made, and deciding whether a later-season happiness is still possible.

The heroines in these books are not all entering society fresh. Widows, women with damaged pasts, and women carrying family burdens show up often, which gives the romances a mature, earned quality. Michaels is very good at that kind of story. She likes characters who have already learned caution and then find themselves tempted into hope anyway.

There is also a nice range in the men around them. Some are aristocrats, some are self-made, some have been close for years, and some arrive carrying complications of their own. Class tension, old affection, secrets, and second chances all have room to breathe.

If you like historical romance that still has plenty of heat but spends a little more time on emotional timing, vulnerability, and the feel of lives shifting with the season, this series is a good fit.
