But the season turns into the rainiest on record, with evacuation threatening to upend everything. Dogs get restless. Friends get cranky. A dream summer starts to feel fragile.

The tone stays warm and accessible, and the dog element makes the series especially inviting. But these books are not just cute beach reads with pets. They are about disappointment, adjustment, and the work of keeping friendships alive when people begin changing at different speeds. Remy is a good center for that because she is inventive and hopeful, even when she is hurt.
