Series background & context
Scandalous Seasons is one of Christi Caldwell's early gateways into her larger Regency world. These books stay close to the marriage mart and the gossip of the ton, but Caldwell gives the familiar setup a little more ache than froth. The men and women here are shaped by family expectations, old scandals, wartime wounds, and the quiet humiliations that polite society loves to pretend are normal.
The series is anchored by connected families and recurring faces, especially the Tidemores and the people orbiting them. That means each romance stands on its own, but the books are more satisfying when read in order because the emotional history keeps building. A side character in one novel can become the heart of the next, and Caldwell enjoys rewarding patient readers that way.
The tone is classic Regency on the surface, balls, betrothals, Christmas gatherings, whispered gossip, but the stories often hinge on harder private battles. Forever Betrothed, Never the Bride opens with a long-promised match tested by war and trauma. Later books turn to neglected wallflowers, notorious rogues, clever women tired of being overlooked, and couples caught between duty and genuine feeling.
There is a lot of yearning in this series. Also stubbornness.
If you like romances where reputation matters, where a family scandal can ripple through several books, and where the eventual happy ending feels won rather than easy, Scandalous Seasons delivers. It is a good fit for readers who want ballrooms, tension, and a strong sense of an ongoing social world.
