Sarah Hogle is a contemporary romance writer whose stories pair awkward, funny people with big feelings and a little chaos. She has said she started writing at five years old and that becoming an author was always what she wanted to do.

In a 2021 interview, Hogle described herself as a stay-at-home mother of three in rural Ohio. Her public author note also mentions her love of trashy television, teasing her husband for attention, and her wish to live in a crumbling castle in a probably cursed forest.

That mix of everyday life, oddball humor, and affection for haunted-forest possibilities runs through her fiction. Hogle's first published novel, You Deserve Each Other, arrived in 2020. It begins with Naomi Westfield and Nicholas Rose, engaged but both secretly desperate to escape their expensive wedding, and turns their campaign of pranks and sabotage into a fresh look at honesty in a long relationship.

Her next novel, Twice Shy, takes a softer route. Maybell Parish inherits a run-down house in the Smoky Mountains and finds herself sharing it with Wesley Koehler, its guarded groundskeeper. Hogle has spoken openly about using some of her own experience with social anxiety when developing Wesley, who struggles to express himself around people and still gets a full romantic story.

In 2022, Just Like Magic took her into holiday fantasy. Bettie Hughes is facing Christmas and a difficult family when she accidentally conjures Hall, the Holiday Spirit. The setup lets Hogle put a cynical character beside someone who is all warmth, magic, and enthusiasm, then see what their collision changes.

She returned to Ohio, and leaned further into magic, with the Moonville novels. Old Flames and New Fortunes follows floral witch Romina Tempest, whose work with magical bouquets is bound up with a risky fake-dating plan and a reunion with her high school love, Alex King. The Folklore of Forever moves to Romina's sister Zelda, a paranormal skeptic and blocked mystery writer who joins Morgan Angelopoulos on a search through Moonville's woods.

She clearly enjoys letting the impossible interrupt an ordinary day.

Whether she is writing a nearly broken engagement, an inherited fixer-upper, a holiday spirit, or a magical small town, Hogle returns to people who are a bit stuck.
