You get snow where it should not be, windswept ruins, bustling courts, desert travel, old stories with teeth, and a landscape that feels beautiful even when it is trying to kill somebody.

The first book, We Hunt the Flame, is a quest story at heart. A small, uneasy group heads into danger to recover something that might restore magic and change the fate of the kingdom. The second, We Free the Stars, opens the world wider. The personal stakes stay intense, but the larger struggle becomes clearer too, with the fight over power, rule, and survival spreading across Arawiya. This is very much a read-in-order duology. The emotional weight builds from book one into book two.

In tone, the series sits in the young adult epic fantasy lane, but it is not all battles and lore. There is romance, found family, and banter, yet there is also loss, political pressure, and the constant sense that one bad choice could cost whole cities. Readers who like slow-burn relationships, morally strained heroes, and immersive world-building usually do well here. So do readers who want a fantasy series where the setting feels alive, not pasted on.
