The San Francisco trilogy is the first stop in the Orchid Club world, and it is probably the cleanest introduction to what that larger series does well. That woman is Christiana. The man is James.

In San Francisco Longing, Christiana discovers the club almost by accident and decides to watch. Instead, she ends up participating. Her weekend with James is intense, consensual, and transformative, but it is built on a lie, or at least on a major omission. When the club weekend ends, he expects to see her again.
