Series background & context

The Rugby series is a collaborative project between Penny Reid and L. H. Cosway that mixes Irish rugby culture with offbeat, emotionally driven romance. Each story centers on a different professional player whose public persona hides private vulnerabilities, pairing him with a heroine who refuses to be impressed by fame or athletic talent alone.

In The Hooker and the Hermit, a reclusive social media strategist and anonymous celebrity blogger is assigned to rehabilitate the image of Ronan Fitzpatrick, a volatile star hooker whose temper has landed him in trouble. Annie would much rather stay behind her screen name, while Ronan distrusts the press on principle, so their partnership begins with mutual suspicion and an inconvenient flare of attraction.

Subsequent books follow new couples tied to the same team and friend group. One story matches a swaggering ladies man with a woman who is bluntly honest about his less than stellar bedroom skills. Another forces a reformed party boy to confront the consequences of his past when he discovers how badly he hurt a woman years earlier. The final entry, The Varlet and the Voyeur, digs into what happens when a deeply private kink becomes very public fodder for the tabloids.

Although there is plenty of locker room humor, the tone is not simply light and sporty. The series touches on mental health, addiction, consent, and shame, often using humor as a shield the characters have to set aside. The Dublin and New York settings give the books a slightly glamorous edge while still letting the characters be awkward, petty, and endearingly human.

Readers do not need detailed knowledge of rugby to enjoy these stories. The sport provides an excuse for travel, team dynamics, and physical stakes, but the emotional core is about people who have built careful personas being forced to show who they really are to one another.
