Series background & context

Rough and Ready is Kathia in playful small-town mode, a romance series set in a charming old Gold Rush town where everybody notices everybody, secrets do not stay hidden for long, and the local love psychic can quietly change the direction of a life. The tone is flirty, funny, and warm, but the books still care about bruised people trying to believe in love again.

The town itself is the glue. Rough and Ready is the sort of place where a newcomer cannot stay anonymous, a police chief can become the center of whispered matchmaking, and neighbors are fully prepared to interfere for your own good. The books follow different couples, but they share a sense that the whole community is half witness, half co-conspirator. That gives the series a lively, welcoming rhythm.

Soul mate energy runs all through it.

My Big Comeback Romance starts with a love psychic who gets publicly called out for not having a true love of her own, then heads toward the one man who might prove that painfully public point wrong. Later books bring in a single mom and a visiting baseball player, a woman swearing off mistakes who gets drawn to a grumpy bartender, a wandering cocktail expert who meets an ice cream shop owner, and even a rockstar desperate enough to visit town in search of help with her love life.

What works so well is the balance. These books are light on their feet, but the characters are not shallow. They are dealing with divorce fallout, career wobble, lost dreams, public embarrassment, loneliness, and the stubborn fear that maybe the big happy ending belongs to other people. Rough and Ready keeps answering that fear with humor, chemistry, and found family.

If you like small-town romance that knows how to be silly without becoming weightless, this series is a good pick. Expect nosy townspeople, hot neighbors, soul mate sparks, and heroines who often think they are just stopping by or keeping things casual. They are almost always wrong. Rough and Ready is built on the idea that love can arrive inconveniently, publicly, and with terrible timing, then turn out to be exactly what someone needed.
